Most of the others come from the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, around Pau: the Pic du Midi d'Ossau and its distinctive outline above veiled foothills, a valley village beneath peaks in the mist, misty hills above a pasture fence, sunlit treetops fading into pastel-toned mountains, a mountain forest framed by branches and, toward town, the rooftops of Pau and a traditional slate-roofed house in the hazy air. Across the border, a summit rises out of the mist in Gipuzkoa, in the Spanish Basque Country, and in Galicia a bluish mist drifts over eucalyptus-covered hills near Lugo. At night, fog wraps a house entrance lit by a single lamp, and light bursts through pine branches.
